Osaka is Kansai's food-and-rail hub, historically called Naniwa and shaped by rivers, canals, merchant districts, and the north-south pull between Umeda and Namba. 1Shitennoji
Shitennoji was founded by Emperor Suiko in 593, making it one of Japan's oldest Buddhist temple sites. Most present buildings are post-World War II reconstructions, but the layout preserves early continental style.

1Minami, Namba & Shinsaibashi

2Tennoji & Abeno
